Right, it needs to be sturdy and easy to maintain with a scheamtic that'll be understandable to his local craftspeople if he ever does need a repair. [Nothing fancy or advanced.]
I have some thoughts on the design, but I'd like to discuss the musculature of that area more to ensure we retail his mobility. But if you're already thinking of ways to translate it into pieces we can discuss that together.
[Handwaved because neither of us are engineers.] Do you need the specific weight of his leg?
Hmm, that couldn't hurt. We should still aim to make it as lightweight as possible, though. Since there's not muscles in the prosthetic to help support and move it, being the same weight as his other leg would be cumbersome.
Even if we intentionally go lower tech so he can bring it home with him, I still want to help him out with modern engineering if possible.
[What is considered modern when the technology varies so much? Probably not that important.]
That's fine. I planned for him to take both the schematic and detailed instructions so that he has all the tools necessary to maintain it for a long time. We can use hollow shapes to help reduce weight.

[Or partial, even? That's something to explore.]

That works! So there can be some level of complexity as long as it can be explained to Mr Childermass and maintained without proprietary parts.
If you can get a basic prototype built I can jump in with any alterations that make sense from my side of things.

[Scooting around in his rolly chair. Also don't mind the cot that's set up in the corner of the room he scoots over to. He's not sleeping here wym.]
Do you have any experience doing things like this?

[His grandmother and Kaveh were Kshahrewar, both mechanically talented in their own rights. He's picked up on things.
He comes over to check out the paper, pulling out his own pen.]
