Of course! I do hope you gentlemen will be joining us rather than sitting it out like poor old Bertie and August.[He holds out a hand]Angus Waverly. Let me know if you ever need help with banking. I own most of the ones in London!
[He gestures to the man at his side and the child lurking behind him;]
My cousin Philip's proof positive that you can be an academic and a sportsman! And then my son Timothy is eager to join, but he's not quite grown enough just yet.
[Timothy pouts but says nothing, Phillip also offers his hand to shake.]
Katan. We certainly do have distinguished businessmen among us today.
[Angus gets a quick and firm shake.]
As for the hunt, I plan to; Lord van Zieks was kind enough to extend an invitation to all of us.
[He does think going on the trip will be worthwhile, but he'll let the others decide for themselves -- it may be that there are other avenues to pursue, you never know. Divide and conquer is also a strategy, and they don't know what actually awaits them in the woods.]
I'd say it's a good aspiration for gentlemen to be well-rounded in both the pen and the sword, so to speak. So long as young Timothy focuses on his studies for now, he'll outshine others when it comes his time to join us.
Quite well! It's shaping up to be quite a group! [He holds out a hand] Ezekiel Westenra. Both my sons, Francis and Gregory, will be joining us.
[An older but kindly looking man pipes up as he offers his hand;] Felix Harker. If the ladies of your group wish to join, they should feel welcome. My son Jonathan is away on business, but his fiance Mina will join us. I believe Lord Barton's youngest Maggie will as well. It should be a good hunt. Word is that Gustav's men spotted a truly impressive buck the other day. While making a show of "hunting down the monster" is the stated goal to appease the townspeople, the real reason the younger men are so fired up is because they have their eyes on that prize. The real "monster," if you will.
[They are going to need extra hands for all these hands--
OK no let's have a normal number of hands and just go down the line -- it's the time for methodical friendliness.]
... It must be a real specimen to gather so many, even for a hunt slated for something else.
[Or people are just there to rubberneck. That's how these things tend to go. Hard to say whether it's safer or better with so many crowding whatever this expedition will turn out to be, but he has doubts about whether their presence will affect the outcome either way.]
The competition will be stiff, but enjoyable, I think.
[Urianger makes sure everyone gets a handshake and a greeting. Even the women are joining along, huh? He can't help but think of all the hunting parties that go on in Eorzea and beyond. He's never been on one himself, but there's a first time for everything.
...he's glad that Thancred isn't here to see him be a terrible shot if they end up putting a gun in his hands.]
Pray tell, what is this "monster" I have been hearing about of late? Sir Englebert seemed most distressed over it.
Oh, don't mind Bertie. He's always been a little....
[The man next to Ezekiel cuts in;]
E-Exciteable. But he's not entirely w-wrong. There has been an... uptick in occult activity in the s-s-social circles as of late. What do you two.... Wh-what's your opinion on all that? [Despite his stutter, the man seems relatively forthright. He's not nervous, he just has a condition.]
There's nothing occult about the monster, though... I think Lord Barton just started that rumor so the townspeople wouldn't hunt that buck before we could, personally.
There have always been rises and falls in occult interest mirroring the ills of society -- many try to find explanations for these things in darker places. I think it should be monitored to make sure it doesn't cross into the realm of actual harm... but humans are naturally curious creatures who love ritual.
I hadn't heard the details of the commotion earlier, but it sounds like Lord Barton's group won't be joining us regardless.
[He rattles most of this off without any particular air of judgment -- it's said with the dry tones of a sociologist or perhaps someone else who is always watching.]
As Lord van Zieks tells it, there was a wolf involved, but it's no longer a problem. It may be a case of hitting two birds with one stone.
A wolf, is it? I'd not heard that. 'Tis well that it no longer poseth a threat, in part to the hunt as well. 'Twould be most unfortunate if the aforementioned prized buck were to be poached by this wolf.
[As for his thoughts on the occult stuff:]
I am of the same mind as Katan. 'Twould be wise to not dismiss those concerns, but idle speculation will avail us naught.

I believe I heard mention of the hunt...?

Urianger Augurelt. 'Tis a pleasure, sirs.
[Timothy gets a polite nod as well!]
I am in agreement, Katan.
[As for the hunt itself...]
How goeth planning for the hunt?

[Angus is elbowed in the gut by Felix with a hissed aside too quiet to be heard properly.]
Don't mind Angus, gentlemen. He loves a good joke. We look forward to seeing you out there!
