There's this horror film. It's called The Thing. In it, a group of explorers in a very, very cold place are infiltrated by an alien creature that can take the guise of any of them. At one point, the main hero gathers his colleagues - the creature doesn't like fire. So, he takes their blood samples, and puts a hot wire into the blood...
And the one that reacts and freaks out was the one belonging to the guy who was the creature the whole time! Anyways. I don't know if our infection will react like that to a hot wire, but we may just need to find out what it reacts to.
