ROLE - SCIENTIST
Greetings Scientist.
Are you ready to get to work? I certainly hope you are; everyone here is depending on you. After all, your role, your goal is to develop the cure for the raging infection. And if you're not ready to work or don't know where to start, both very understandable, there should be a notebook somewhere that will be of help to you.
Don't worry, you won't have to do this alone. You get to pick an assistant to help you! Maybe even one of those shady figures that go into hiding. Rumor has it that they'll either give you one (1) item to check someone if they are infected or not; it'll take the shape and form of whatever you want. Or, they'll help you create the cure once you know what to do. Isn't that handy?
Except, unfortunately, it's only one or the other. Bummer.
NOTES:
- This is NOT a secret role, however it would be beneficial if you did not make your role public.
- You may request help from one (1) other player and one (1) NPC of your choice. You cannot change your choice.
- If the item is chosen then you may check one (1) player at any point during the week, however, you MUST contact a mod before doing so. The number of players may change depending on outside circumstances.

I will trust that your words are sincere and you must believe that my desire to assist remains true.

[ The silence is loud, but it's filled with contemplation nevertheles. ]
Then it is long past time I offer transparency. I see all too well that we have reached an impasse that cannot be breached without it. Would that be a fair extension of trust towards you?

[ part of Siffrin didn't expect for them to agree. but now that they're offering, they'd be ridiculous to say no.
they swallow their anxiety like a stone and offer the puppet a small nod of their head. ]
I think it would really help.

This time, the figure has rid themselves of their cloak, revealing their face in full.
Now that the figure has properly stepped into the light, they'll see a woman around Siffrin's height, her clothes black and billowy and lined with fur around her shoulders. Her clothes are a stark contrast to her hair and bright white eyes... as well as the white ears that sit atop her head and the white tail that flicks behind her. ]
I once could hardly be bothered to put my faith in a man inclined to share only half-truths, and now that I've seen his side... I still have little sympathy for such tactics. So, we shall discuss matters face-to-face.
[ Her voice is soft yet stern and very, very British. ]

no. it's a lady. and judging from their conversation, even someone like him can piece together that it's Sage's real form. they quickly lower the knife, tucking it back in. ]
Huh, so you always like to stay close. I thought it was just that one time. [ it's an odd feeling, seeing them (her?) in the flesh now. she seems serious, and her personality alone reminds Siffrin just slightly of Odile.
ignoring how that thought makes him feel like his chest is being squeezed, he adds. ]
But...thank you. Genuinely.

If we are to work together in tandem, and to work together effectively, 'twas the least I could do. This may be a risk, yet... one that proves worth it, I believe.
no subject
Siffrin does his best to smile anyway. ]
Then… let’s work. [ they hold out the notebook. ] Though I’m still not sure how this will get us any closer.

Any additional information we uncover will be a boon.
[ It takes her a moment to read it over, and it seems like she has to concentrate quite a bit to do so. ]
'Twould seem these pages detail the experiences of those infected. We could use this as a measure for locating those displaying symptoms. A means of identification.

[ Siffrin snaps his fingers. Finally! Finding common ground! ]
no subject
That is my thinking, yes. What we will do, however, is another matter.
[ She looks up at them, tilting her head in thought. ]
As you certainly gleaned from these files, those who contracted this illness were occasionally killed.
no subject
Siffrin does their best to look neutral about this, but the way his ears droop are a telltale sign that they are not happy to have that come up. ]
I did read that… do you think we can find a way to avoid it?
no subject
Should we set our mind to it, yes. I will not promise you that we will find a solution immediately or that we will stumble upon a sure one, but I will search nevertheless.
Remind me—your note made mention of a cure, correct?
no subject
[ Give him a sec— oh, right! ]
Yeah, it did, didn’t it? [ But hold on… ] Who would have known about this? Isn’t this a little suspicious?
no subject
[ She crosses her arms.
Speaking of said solution… ]
I suppose we should begin our work towards a decision. Would you search for a cure or for a means of identifying the infected?
no subject
[ they frown. ]
If all we do is find them, what can we do? You said it’s fatal, right?
no subject
[ She won’t hold back on that. It’s simply a fact. ]
suicide mention tw
So we would have to kill them, if we found them.
[ Because leaving them to die would be too cruel. You’ve killed a countless number of Sadnesses, and you would rip the King’s heart out in a heartbeat but…
(Could you kill these people? You’ve used the dagger against yourself stars know how many times, but would you be able to do the same to someone else?)
Deep breaths, Siffrin. Deep breaths. ]
Would making the cure be harder?
no subject
Neither road will be easy. 'Tis a matter of what you think is best for the future.
no subject
What Siffrin thinks is best?
Right. Haha... they're a savior, aren't they? They should be able to do something, especially with all this experience that they should have under their belt from all the loops. Why is this such a hard decision for them to make?
Under their cloak, they wring their hands. ]
Well, we're working together on it! So I should hear you out, too.
no subject
You raised an important point—what do we do when we discover an infected? It would be all for naught to know of them and yet do nothing at all with that knowledge.
[ ... ]
A difficult path it would be, aye, but worth it in the end.
no subject
[ Okay, good! Less killing people! Probably!
And yet a part of them feels like they may have bitten more than they could chew but... that's okay! Because they're on the same page! Probably! ]
no subject
'Twould be my preferred method of solving our problem. May as well see it through to the very end.
[ Why go through all of this to let them die, right? ]
You may always seek my counsel, should you have need of it. Though the burden weighs heavy, you are not alone in approaching this illness. This will require work that we take on together.
no subject
...without the help of the loops that have trapped them in Vaugarde. They have one shot at this, and they have to do it right.
Or else... they'll all die, right? If he fails, who'll pick up the pieces? ]
Yeah. I'll do my best.
