ROLE - SCIENTIST
Greetings Scientist.
Are you ready to get to work? I certainly hope you are; everyone here is depending on you. After all, your role, your goal is to develop the cure for the raging infection. And if you're not ready to work or don't know where to start, both very understandable, there should be a notebook somewhere that will be of help to you.
Don't worry, you won't have to do this alone. You get to pick an assistant to help you! Maybe even one of those shady figures that go into hiding. Rumor has it that they'll either give you one (1) item to check someone if they are infected or not; it'll take the shape and form of whatever you want. Or, they'll help you create the cure once you know what to do. Isn't that handy?
Except, unfortunately, it's only one or the other. Bummer.
NOTES:
- This is NOT a secret role, however it would be beneficial if you did not make your role public.
- You may request help from one (1) other player and one (1) NPC of your choice. You cannot change your choice.
- If the item is chosen then you may check one (1) player at any point during the week, however, you MUST contact a mod before doing so. The number of players may change depending on outside circumstances.

[ There’s a bitterness to those words, as if it were something personal. ]
Then anything can be interpreted as a wish? I don’t even have to be saying that I wish for something, any strong desire could do. Right? And what is a curse, if not just a really strong desire?

[ Hence no real reason for a ritual. She tilts her head, regarding them for a long moment. ]
'Twould seem you have personal feelings regarding this. No need to share them if you would rather keep them close to your chest, but your experiences may be beneficial.

(You don't know. You still don't. She's gone through the effort of being here, but you still don't know whether you trust her or not.
But if you don't trust her, then...) ]
I don't know if it'll help or not. [ There's no rituals here, so it's not as if they could just wish to the wishing well without suffering some horrible consequence, but... ] But the reason I'm trying to save a country is because of a wish.

Do you know aught of this wish, or simply that one was made?

But Siffrin smiles at the question. Oh, how they smile. ]
The Head Housemaiden told me herself! [ A chipper tone, contrasting with the way that his hands are balled tightly into fists. ] They wished for a savior but something went wrong with the wish, so now I'm stuck having to save it for the rest of eternity until I figure out a way out of it.
[ Teehee. ]
See? That's how easy a wish can turn into a curse!

[ She can tell that this is a tricky topic, and a misstep could damage the tenuous trust that’s begun to come between them, but the frown on her face at least betrays some of her concern. ]
I would gladly offer my counsel, should you see fit to seek it out.
[ Help they can take if they want it, but Y’shtola of all people will understand if he doesn’t. ]

(You need to get out of this as quickly as possible. Before the infection takes you too.) ]
It's alright. I'm the only one aware of it, but at least I'm stuck with people who are important to me. It's fine.
[ He tries to dismissively wave the topic away in favor of the next. ]
The point is, if everything here is related to a wish or a desire, then maybe that has something to do with the way people get taken by those hands or why the disease keeps being different.

[ And that, well, is that. They can take it or leave it, when the time comes.
She knows it's not fine, but well. An argument won't serve either of them well when they have another problem right in their faces. ]
I believe the possibility is there, though I should like to see what the connection might be, precisely. Do you believe it to be the consequences of these desires, or something more?

[ Every wish takes energy. The Universe doesn't just give things out, it takes as well.
But that doesn't stop him from asking: ]
What if I wished for the cure?
[ They're... probably not serious. ]
no subject
[ Because she does!! But... his question. ]
You said it yourself, Siffrin. A wish can easily turn into a curse. We must needs take the more difficult path of developing it ourselves, lest we reap what we sow through the consequences of a wish of that sort.
[ Sorry, but she doesn't dislike Siffrin and that means she's not going to let them wish whatever. ]

[ Terrible for someone who has died stars know how many times, but she doesn't need to know how expendable they think their body is. ]
Thancred told us about how Foxglove doesn't like saying the word "wish". Is it for the same reason?
[ Could they really be onto something here? ]
no subject
More likely than not. It speaks to his caution that he avoids even uttering the word.
[ Why doesn't she? Who knows. ]
no subject
Why don’t you?
no subject
[ There is a reckless streak to her, after all, in spite of the puppetry. ]
What more could the word do to me here? Regardless of the potential for ill effects, I will act as I always have—pushing through to the answers I seek.
no subject
So you’re the type to work on things yourself rather than wish for them?
no subject
[ It really is all because she's just Like This. ]
Though I oft do not work alone, and neither should you. If there is someone else you wish to work alongside the both of us in our search for a cure, you're welcome to invite them.
