Aether is your life force, to put it in the simplest terms. I know naught if what I see here is aether, but it is the closest approximation that I have. 'Tis how I perceive the world, so any changes are quick to catch my notice.
[ There can be a whole lecture on aether later, if he wants, but Sage will go ahead and get to the point. ]
Thus, that makes this difference notable, as small as it is. This spot that I see... may very well be that "something else" you describe.
Naught was amiss until they transformed. Or rather, I presume that they transformed as I cannot perceive it. Yukinosuke, upon transformation, was merely a negative space amidst the aether that surrounds us.
[ Sage pauses, letting that linger for a moment before pressing on. ]
When Giyuu and Yukinosuke both perished, they turned into that very same negative space before disappearing entirely.
... But you didn't see anything like that in Lynne?
[ huh ]
We didn't see any signs of transformation in Giyuu - not physically. Yuki... he'd been changing, until the day he killed Reiju. But you didn't see that because you were unconscious like us? Or do you mean that after he killed Reiju, he was a black hole to you?
[ he's trying to line up the order of things in terms of "illness" progression. ]
To me... when Giyuu and Yuki were taken away, it looked like they were being drained, before they scattered into dust. I'd assume that's them turning into negative space. But before that, they coughed up something - the same something that left Lynne.
[ and entered Ludger ]
So is that also... a bit of negative space? Or is that something else completely?
Yukinosuke transformed before your eyes, correct? 'Twas at the moment he transformed that I could no longer perceive him. I only knew where to aim my spell as there was nothing there. Before he transformed, he appeared much the same as everyone present.
[ It's a good thing he didn't move to attack Sage at that moment either, otherwise they might not have been able to dodge. ]
As for what they expel... yes, it is as if they are expelling nothing before my eyes. A blank space amongst the aether.
I'm surprised the answer to all of this wasn't buried in there somewhere - the Orda Palace library is pretty big, but I think this one might have it beat in terms of number of books.
[ man this is gonna be so funny come ic Wednesday when there's information out the wazoo ]
Have you heard about what we've been finding here? I don't know if it's all stuff you guys already noticed, but maybe some of it will give more context to what you're reading about?
[ actually ]
Have you found anything from the people that were here before us?
[ amb. ambie. sweet amberino. if you make me summarize what they knew on Monday after this whole week, I will explode. because Ludger will share what he knows, which is not a lot, frankly. and he'll move on to the next bit anyways! ]
I heard about the lists in the morgue, and the spirits in the chapel, though I haven't seen them myself. The main thing I can think of is the girl we saw in room 305.
[ ... ]
The, um. One who was only visible if we held hands with one of the hands in the hole and closed our eyes.

[ absently, he touches his chest, right over his heart. if he had his watch, would its pace have increased? or would the hands be slowing down? ]
I don't feel like I have changed, but I know there is something else in me now. And I know it's what was in Lynne.

So there's no real way to identify people who are really sick besides paying attention to their behaviors.
[ hm ]
Is it possible it's not aether at all, and that's why you can't see it?
no subject
[ They very much want to know, however. ]
You're correct, however. We need to monitor for potential symptoms if we are to identify those who are infected.
no subject
... Would you also like to take some blood.
no subject
If you are willing to offer.
no subject
Just don't take too much. And could you take it from my right arm? I already had some drawn from my left.
no subject
[ Hmmm. ]
I suppose we should away to the infirmary. I would rather not spill blood in a room I spend much time in.
no subject
[ it is a lot nicer in here... ]
Do you want me to carry you?
no subject
[ This puppet is Independent. ]
And correct, I prefer this room to the library. The library does not have tea, after all.
[ Or shoes. ]
no subject
I never tried to bring food inside the library.
[ he's not a heathen after all. ]
Does it vanish it if you do?
no subject
Not that I am aware of. I've brought tea in before, and that has been fine. I would simply prefer no crumbs on the books.
WHERE DID MY NOTIF GO-
Gotta keep them clean for future use.
[ hmmm ]
Have you gone through all the books in the library?
SHAKES DW!!
[ Maybe this speaks to some level of madness... but it probably speaks most to their nerdiness. ]

[ maybe. who can say ]
no subject
I had hoped that it would be, as answers often lie deeply buried in text.
[ A sigh. ]
Unfortunately, I have had no such luck. Fragments of potential answers, certainly, but nothing concrete as of yet.

I've heard of some of it, though if you are willing to share, I will gladly listen.
[ As for the other question— ]
I have seen... records. Though of any individuals that were here... no. I do hope to find evidence, so if you have clues, I would hear of them.
