[ Somehow he half expected to just see the void, or more eternal white mist.
Just a house, probably, and not like way high up like they're in a mansion or castle right? Just because of Hansa's rich people comment. Is the clothing style of the people in the paintings all very victorianesque, and do they look happy, considering the note ... (though maybe if they're posing for a portrait that might be harder to tell, huh) ]
The outside is about as abandoned as this room is. Do you suppose this is just an illusion made to look this way, or is this place a recreation of somewhere else?
[ That aside, after he's had his fill out staring at paintings and outside, can he check out the desk? Any diaries, stray papers, is there any writing with handwriting that matches the door note or other odd knickknacks to be found on or around it? ]
Edited (actually I wanna bold things like a cool kid too) 2025-11-30 23:54 (UTC)
[ SURPRISE!! no mist for you. this time you get a whole ass world out there for touching. probably. also probably a house. hard to say from the room that they're confined to presently. and he can check the desk for anything interesting where he'll find a torn piece of paper that will read:
"It all begins with you."
the handwriting itself wouldn't match with anything in particular. at least, that julius has his eyes on. maybe hansa could help here. ]
Not particularly. At least, it's not a name I've heard ... we could try asking the others later, if we don't end up uncovering more of this first. Maybe if not Childermass, then our alchemist friend might know something.
[ Because I'm going to assume from the vibe of the CYOA in general the clothing styles and everything are also Victorianish ...... enough ... to match to the kind of clothing Fran and Childermass might be prone wearing??? hopefully??? because we have eyes (for now). ]
That said, I imagine you might be right. There's a picture of a family on the wall. Two children, a girl and a boy. And also, I found a scrap of paper ... the handwriting seems to match.
"To my dear Cardia, ... it all begins with you"?
I wonder how much of this letter we're missing.
[ Also what is the overarching relevancy here, what might the ghosts want them to see...
Actually, with the torn pieces of letter, can they tell that they have the beginning and end scraps (clean cut/even edge on top or bottom vs jagged like it was torn), or nah? ]
[ yes! we can assume this is all victorianish enough to fit the vibe and childremass and fran. also! the pages of the letter will be jagged. as though someone tore it up in some manner for some reason! ]
[ imagine the kind of thing that he could find under the bed? well, while i could make it super silly for something ridiculous to be down there, he'll instead find a sizeable chunk of the letter. it will read:
"You will live alone...forever. You must never know love. You must live in isolation. The more you learn of love the more you will be made to suffer because you are a monster." ]
[ Wow his expression immediately goes blank on reading this part of the letter. His glasses probably do the stupid anime thing too. ]
Quite the letter to be leading into with a 'dear', isn't it.
... but what is it that they're saying will begin with her?
[ Hansa has the looking up thing covered, are there any drawers at this desk to look through or is it not one of those nice desks and stuff. What haven't they covered yet... ]
[ as we are pending crystal's return, the narrator voice here will offer julius the vision to see that the chaise lounge might have something of interest here. perhaps...an envelope that could provide some more details?
[ Oh, right, the chaise lounge chair, which the writer has definitely not been too distracted by FFXIV to remember. Let's go take a closer look around that, for maybe an envelope ... as well as anything else of note over by it. ]
[ it's all good, on the chaise lounge chair, he'll find himself a few dried and pressed flowers (blue) near the envelope. inside of the envelope with another mostly intact letter and the message will read:
"I hope you can forgive me for leaving you alone. There is something I must do. I want you to remain in this mansion and wait for my return."
[ Huh. That's a somewhat different tone from the last scrap. The handwriting's been consistent the entire time?
Well, he'll collect that and the flowers, sure. Sure is a lot of letters and a lot of blue... If he looks up, is there going to be even more of it on the ceiling? ]
[ imagine this is where the rock falls and julius dies and hansa lives because crystal isn't here to have him take part in this? ...except that isn't what happens. instead, he'll just be met with the sight of a very quaint ceiling. nothing awful about it. truly quite nice.
...but there are also stars—the sort that you could expect a small child to ask their parent to draw for them to gaze at when they were bored. tragically not glow in the dark or with stickers. just drawn. ]
[ Well! Now we have two small scraps, a bigger scrap, and a mostly intact letter. Do they all look like they were from the same whole/can be reassembled/aligned? How much are they missing if it looks like they could be a single letter.
Musing out loud as he heads back towards the bed: ]
We're still missing at least part of it, unless this author wasn't in the habit of signing their letters... why do all of this if you're going to call her a monster?
[ And actually, where's the sibling in all of this, then? ]
[ it'll be clear that they're probably from two different letters! the paper in the envelope that julius just found being less aged and not as nice (weighty) than the paper that had been torn up.
but also man. why would anyone go through all of this and then call them a monster? talk about mixed signals. ]
[ I could say something about Julius cleaning the room but I won't. I'm sure Trav will say it for me. ]
Maybe. [ Dubiously. ] The second letter is less worn than the first, even if we still don't know the author.
That said, even if something changed ... who can really say how much, considering the note on the door.
[ Which he is going to go back to examine, and sure, clean up what he can on the way over. Dust bunnies what is your wisdom. What are the vibes of this door if he studies it the same way they did the initial doors they can't through... ]
[ for hansa, he'll get the lovely view from of the outdoors! an quaint little garden and a sizeable front lawn both overgrown from serious neglect. he'll see a stone pathway leading towards the building (house probably) that the two of them have been located in, and in the opposite direction of the stone pathway will be a forest. the very same sight that julius saw earlier.
as for julius when he examines the doors (and banishes the dust bunnies offering him no further wisdom in their demise), he'll notice that the door will also have a specific set of requirements that it'll ask of them. ...with a bit extra being asked from them as well. generally speaking though, the vibes of the door are not rancid but simply just ominous. ]
Is that what we're jumping to? We should try to bring at least the letters with us, shouldn't we?
[ Does that even count? How high are the requirements here? ]
If it's more metaphorical, and taking parts of this room with us will mean to take ... what, that idea of feeling like a monster? Needing to stay locked away to avoid hurting people?

[And wow! The letter combines into one. Who knew.]
Huh! There you have it. [And he'll just turn to go look under the bed, now.] I wonder if they stashed something underneath.

How sad. No wonder the door said something like that.
