[ It could mean something indeed...most would simply wrinkle their nose in particular or disappointment.
However, Anaxagoras only can consider this development particularly closely. ]
When you say you have difficulty determining its precise strength, what do you mean? The sheer volume of innate energy inside of it? Potential magic ability?
How does your sight usually assist in assessing strength of various things like the well?
Its energy, or in the words of my star, its aether. Mass concentrations of it are particularly bright on my eyes, making it nearly impossible to see. 'Tis rather easy to determine relative power as a result, though difficult to determine its quantity.
[ And because they have a feeling that Anaxagoras might follow up on that a bit more, they'll go ahead and explain: ]
I perceive the world through the aether my surroundings exude. You have your own special concentration of it in the same manner everyone else here has their own signature.
[ So in essence this person is able to discern energy just by looking at it due to perception.
...That is wild, and kind of cool. ]
Is that so?
I haven't heard of such an ability - though, it sounds convenient until there is an object with an incredible mass of energy like the well itself. Though, I wonder if this means you can also see disturbances in "aether", or if this ability is simply unique to yourself?
[ It doesn't sound like the usual kind of thing just anyone would have, but what does he know? ]
You are correct. It is certainly convenient, though it has its drawbacks as any ability would. It also allows me to see disturbances, so I suppose it is worth the drawbacks.
[ Sage tilts their head. ]
'Tis a unique ability, one that I use my own magic to employ. Otherwise, I cannot perceive my surroundings.
[ The irony of this discussion happening with a person who has an eyepatch and one eye. Anyway... ]
Did you learn it on your own?
[ ...What if there's something they can do to work with this.
He's standing there, thinking... ]
You also must have seen many disturbances around where we are. Are there any places that are available to us you've observed that so happen to be like the well? Or close to the same effect?
[ Anaxagoras' brows raise as the other says this. Did this even come up before? He doesn't recall, and doesn't believe so, so after a moment he decides to pursue it. ]
What exactly have you seen?
[ A hellion? Doppleganger? The opposite of cat nip, which would repel anyone that sniffed at it? The Grim Reaper? The possibilities are endless. ]
[ …It can be said that life in of itself has its own basic formulae. Numbers and compositions that make up every aspect, that can be transferred from one thing to another - even that which it opposes it.
He gets out some paper and begins to write this down in front of Sage. ]
There are a few matters worth consideration.
First, we should consider if it’s possible to repel its own method and direct it back unto itself…if we are able to do something like that, it could cause great damage to it in the first place.
Second, if there is a way to draw out its "mass" like a vacuum, and "seal" it somewhere.
Third, did you notice any other oddities? When there was a dearth of life - of energy, did the aether shift in other spots as well, or “feel” heavy?
...I suppose in this case it is devising the method to redirect its force back unto itself that would be the difficulty...
[ But, as he says that, he's still in thinking mode. Strangely enough even as he utters the word 'difficulty', he doesn't seem deterred or afraid; just focused. Yes it is going to be hella hard; yet it is (1) potential starting point. ]
[ Seems that they're on the same page. It doesn't surprise him. Though... ]
So, it's another waiting game.
Hmph. Of course it would require patience - though, preferably it'd be in a situation where we didn't lose one or another of our numbers.
[ ...At least, that's where his hopes lie. He doesn't hold too steadfast that there won't be another disturbance, but he refuses to give up on the idea that they won't be able to do anything about it. ]

[ Anaxagoras speaks up right away...it is kind of odd to see the puppet where its seated but it is whatever.
...
...no, it's still weird. Anyway. ]
First and foremost, did you manage to uncover anything new regarding the well? Or was I correct in my presumption?
no subject
[ But to someone like Anaxagoras, maybe that means something? ]
A surprising development for me, as I usually have no trouble determining the power of something else through my sight.

No. ‘Tis only the well that I see such a thing.
However, you may find interest in what I’ve seen when hands spring forth from the earth.
no subject
What exactly have you seen?
[ A hellion? Doppleganger? The opposite of cat nip, which would repel anyone that sniffed at it? The Grim Reaper? The possibilities are endless. ]

I've watched them drain the aether out of those they touched... the places those hands landed would turn into negative space.
no subject
...As if it also not only drained "aether", but distorted reality in of itself, leaving nothing behind?
Following that, did the space return back to its original state? Or, was there a permanent distortion left behind?
[ Anaxagoras is just rapidfiring these questions, don't mind. ]
no subject
Leaving nothing. Think of it as a dearth of life, of energy. There was no distortion left behind once the lifeless were no longer before me.
So yes, the space returned to its original state.

[ Which is something, Sage thinks. The puppet watches as he writes. ]
I do believe reflecting its own method onto it is a possible avenue. That which can destroy in totality can, in turn, be destroyed.

When I am able to gather more information on the nature of the force we are dealing with, our answers will become clearer.

Shall we reconvene and discuss more later, when we both have more knowledge under our feet?
no subject
...Very well. Let us do that.
[ He turns on the heel of his foot, and begins to head away. ]

Hopefully their next meeting is in the flesh. ]
