ROLE - DOCTOR
Hello Doctor.
Can I call you "doctor"? Well, regardless of your feelings on the matter or whether you have the qualifications of being a doctor, this will now be your role. Your task will be simple - figure out who has been infected and help them. A bit daunting of a task, I know, however it will come with an upside!
You will be completely immune from the infected and will be given an item that will let you know how recently that person has been infected. If they have been infected in the first place. This item will take shape of whatever you wish it to be but will have a single (1) use - unfortunately.
Oh, and before you leave, there's a book titled "Doctors for Dummies" that you may find to be very interesting. It might help you out - help all of us out.
NOTES:
- The book will be updated every Monday at 9 AM of the new week.
- This is NOT a secret role, however it would be beneficial if you did not make your role public.
- You may request help from one (1) other player and one (1) NPC of your choice. You cannot change your choice.
- Pick one (1) person to save on Thursday, even if you are chosen to die that week.

[ well, if she's going to let it flip through the book then that's what it's going to do and look over the profiles that are there. while there's nothing there that is particular new there is something— ]
Someone who was reportedly immune from the infection...? And they were working towards finding a cure as well?
no subject
Do you recognize the diction here?
[And...there's other stuff they might be interested in, too.]
no subject
and again. ]
...y, you're also immune to the infection? [ it sounds confused but surprised. delighted but reserved. ] And this letter just came to you?
[ but more importantly: ]
Have you received the item that the letter spoke about? Ah— [ it's voice soft and it fights back the eagerness to know more with the understanding that it's asking so much with possibly not a lot in return. ] I'm sorry. It's fine if you don't want to tell me.

If we take at face value everything written here. My resistance is to poisons, not diseases curses... and I don't think it should be tested carelessly.
[Though she will. Test her exposure, that is, if she absolutely has to...as long as it is a worthwhile exchange.]
But if everything that's written here is true, then I wish to use it to its fullest extent.
no subject
Of course, there's absolutely no way that we'd want to try anything too hastily. I would also never ask you to try anything yourself until we knew for certain.
If I could take a small sample of your blood then maybe I can run it through some tests back in my lab.
[ lmao. given that wk 1 locations are now unlocked, this can be allowed for this thread. even if there is no lab. i have my reasons. ]
no subject
What sorts of tests? I wouldn't mind seeing the place for myself, actually... Without a space of my own, the kitchen is no place for brewing concoctions, even harmless ones. And I'd be curious how whatever has sealed my abilities may have altered me.
[Using the communal dishware for chemistry is best left for small group affairs.]
no subject
[ we will absolutely deal with that later. ]
I wouldn't be opposed to showing you where it is, if we're going to be working together, but it seems like when someone walks beyond a certain point in this place they get turned back around.
no subject
After what occurred today, I hope it isn't too late. I was rather close to the boy when... [They were all there. No need to describe it.] Your colleagues seemed surprised. Were you?
[As the pupet had said, it had watched people turn into nothing.]
no subject
[ though on the matter of what happened with giyuu— ]
How could I not be surprised by it? I didn't expect it—he denied allowing me to treat him no matter how many times I asked..!
[ foxglove will sound truly upset about this. as though it is taking responsibility for what happened. ]
I haven't seen it move so quickly before.
no subject
He was reserved the entire time I spoke with him. If he underwent any changes in his mental state... [Cantarella doesn't think she could have known or caught them in time.] Could it have started before any of us had the chance to notice? If that's the case...how could you be certain?
[She IS keeping her single-use item comfortable in her back pocket...Surely there must be something more.]
no subject
[ and here is foxglove adjusting something on its face when there's nothing there on the puppet side of things. ]
But it's very possible that the change could have happened before anyone was able to realize it, but Rosemary hasn't come back with the results from Beryl to prove what might have caused his change. If it was purely magical or otherwise.
[ it sighs. ]
If only we could have gotten a sample of that black substances that Giyuu was coughing up.
no subject
So, that part was unexpected. The hands that emerged to grasp him were as well, I take it. I fear it may be even more evidence of a third, intentional force at work...
[It really doesn't look like any illness. It's much more like something infinitely more powerful and sinister with the ability to alter reality on a whim. She hopes she's wrong about the magnitude of power.]
You never encountered the black substance on anyone you treated previously?
no subject
[ this puppet is a being of science (alchemy) more than otherworldly things! ...not that it also doesn't acknowledge those things happening. hell, look at where all of them are now. ]
...there is a chance that I might have seen it before, but since I don't have a sample of it, I can't know for sure. If it is the same substance then it doesn't store for very long so tests have to be done quickly.
no subject
[Though she's rather neutrally describing the events preceding Giyuu's coughing fit and dissolution, Cantarella's expression is dim.]
Better than being splattered with foreign substances by far. None in the crowd seemed injured or affected, so I don't think any remained behind.
That girl, Maomao, was checking others, too. [She pauses, lingering on the thought.] Have you spoken with her?
no subject
[ foxglove will make a note of it but not comment on it. instead it will simply just shake its head instead. ]
Maomao? No, she hasn't spoken to me and I don't want to go out of my way to approach anyone if they're not interested in saying to me.
no subject
If we meet again soon, I might think to ask if she noticed anything. It would seem we share similar circumstances and hobbies.
[Cantarella would like her book and creepy letter back now, so she can review what's written there once again with a tight expression.] Whoever sent these to me, they've all but outright said we should anticipate infection to spread.
no subject
N, not all of us can be like Lobelia!
[ but yes, she can have her book back and the creepy letter that foxglove has absolutely no idea where it came from but definitely will start to ponder it. it'll also ponder her words. ]
If you think that she'll keep meeting with you, I wouldn't mind also working with her as well. It would save us the trouble of needing to go back and forth with the same notes, and make better use of our efforts to figuring out how to stop it from spreading.
no subject
I'll see what she's observed and provide any samples after that fact. It'd be beneficial to work from similar experiences...though we might also miss something.
[She doesn't know enough about anyone else's work to really quantifiably say, and seems to be determining whether another similar skillset or something otherwise completely different would be best to consult.
Before she goes, though, she does have one more question--]
With no cure and no lasting treatment, what can I hope to offer the infected to help them once I've found them?
no subject
[ it'll tap its chin thoughtfully. ]
There is something that I've set aside—I don't have many vials of it, but it managed to stabilized the last person I used it on for about a month. After that...
[ well, does this puppet need to elaborate? ]
no subject
But if she is immune, and another of her fellows isn't...what risk would she be asking them to take on?]
I don't need to remind you that a month is much longer than a day.
no subject
[ the puppet will nod its head at that. and while it doesn't sound upset or downcast, it will sound apologetic. ]
I only have 5 vials left of what I was able to produce, and I can't guarantee that all of them are as potent as the other but I'm confident that it'll stabilize an infected individual.
no subject
If I should come to understand the symptoms well enough, I'll be able to determine for certain if one person's been exposed. [Once again, obliquely mentioning the accessory for doing the doctor's job that the letter had without explicitly revealing or drawing attention to it.] Ideally, we won't have to use all or even any of the stockpile, but we should prepare for if we do.
no subject
[ it mutters to itself before shaking off the thought to focus on what's important. ]
You're right.
At least, we have a slight idea of what we can expect from what's to come—if it really is spreading throughout all of you. Getting to know one another better may help with the less transparent changes.
[ aka team build exercises go! ]
