ROLE - DOCTOR

Hello Doctor.

Can I call you "doctor"? Well, regardless of your feelings on the matter or whether you have the qualifications of being a doctor, this will now be your role. Your task will be simple - figure out who has been infected and help them. A bit daunting of a task, I know, however it will come with an upside!

You will be completely immune from the infected and will be given an item that will let you know how recently that person has been infected. If they have been infected in the first place. This item will take shape of whatever you wish it to be but will have a single (1) use - unfortunately.

Oh, and before you leave, there's a book titled "Doctors for Dummies" that you may find to be very interesting. It might help you out - help all of us out.

NOTES:
- The book will be updated every Monday at 9 AM of the new week.
- This is NOT a secret role, however it would be beneficial if you did not make your role public.
- You may request help from one (1) other player and one (1) NPC of your choice. You cannot change your choice.
- Pick one (1) person to save on Thursday, even if you are chosen to die that week.

[Yes, they can flip through the book. And, with a little bit of hesitation, Cantarella will show them the letter as well. There's the sense that she might not be sure this is the most advantageous position, but that she's risking it for the sake of what she wants to accomplish.]

Do you recognize the diction here?

[And...there's other stuff they might be interested in, too.]

[There's only so much to get from a puppet and their twisted voice, but Cantarella does her best to note what she sees and hears--that blend of enthusiasm and confusion and concern. Her hand raises slightly as Foxglove's enthusiasm peaks.]

If we take at face value everything written here. My resistance is to poisons, not diseases curses... and I don't think it should be tested carelessly.

[Though she will. Test her exposure, that is, if she absolutely has to...as long as it is a worthwhile exchange.]

But if everything that's written here is true, then I wish to use it to its fullest extent.

[Bet that lab is hiding in the fuckass chapel again or something... We'll deal with you later.]

What sorts of tests? I wouldn't mind seeing the place for myself, actually... Without a space of my own, the kitchen is no place for brewing concoctions, even harmless ones. And I'd be curious how whatever has sealed my abilities may have altered me.

[Using the communal dishware for chemistry is best left for small group affairs.]

Overnighting outside of town, are we? A similar force forbade trespass toward the house at the end of the first street we first found ourselves wandering. [It's a convenient reason for them not to be exposed to the same strange occurrences. Sometimes, the puppeteers seem closer to this place, and they sometimes seem to be together...Cantarella hums as she thinks it over.]

After what occurred today, I hope it isn't too late. I was rather close to the boy when... [They were all there. No need to describe it.] Your colleagues seemed surprised. Were you?

[As the pupet had said, it had watched people turn into nothing.]

[So they did know, and some of what she observed might have been when she was looking for and hoped she didn't see. This is more pressing, so she will table the matter of the lab that is both inside and outside the town.]

He was reserved the entire time I spoke with him. If he underwent any changes in his mental state... [Cantarella doesn't think she could have known or caught them in time.] Could it have started before any of us had the chance to notice? If that's the case...how could you be certain?

[She IS keeping her single-use item comfortable in her back pocket...Surely there must be something more.]

[Giyuu himself had reported on how the puppets treated him during his single night in their care, no matter how wan those reports might have been. It seems to align.]

So, that part was unexpected. The hands that emerged to grasp him were as well, I take it. I fear it may be even more evidence of a third, intentional force at work...

[It really doesn't look like any illness. It's much more like something infinitely more powerful and sinister with the ability to alter reality on a whim. She hopes she's wrong about the magnitude of power.]

You never encountered the black substance on anyone you treated previously?

He pushed the others away before he fell.

[Though she's rather neutrally describing the events preceding Giyuu's coughing fit and dissolution, Cantarella's expression is dim.]

Better than being splattered with foreign substances by far. None in the crowd seemed injured or affected, so I don't think any remained behind.

That girl, Maomao, was checking others, too. [She pauses, lingering on the thought.] Have you spoken with her?

You certainly are shy. [I'm glad these tags were back to back because this is going to become a running gag, and she will continue to say it. If she has opinions about Foxglove's sneaky shyness, she doesn't say more than that just yet...]

If we meet again soon, I might think to ask if she noticed anything. It would seem we share similar circumstances and hobbies.

[Cantarella would like her book and creepy letter back now, so she can review what's written there once again with a tight expression.] Whoever sent these to me, they've all but outright said we should anticipate infection to spread.

["Every puppet is Lobelia" conspiracy grows.]

I'll see what she's observed and provide any samples after that fact. It'd be beneficial to work from similar experiences...though we might also miss something.

[She doesn't know enough about anyone else's work to really quantifiably say, and seems to be determining whether another similar skillset or something otherwise completely different would be best to consult.

Before she goes, though, she does have one more question--
]

With no cure and no lasting treatment, what can I hope to offer the infected to help them once I've found them?

[They've got the right idea about it... And sometimes a different perspective unlocks doors, too, when everything seems hopeless.

But if she is immune, and another of her fellows isn't...what risk would she be asking them to take on?
]

I don't need to remind you that a month is much longer than a day.

Five... [She doesn't want to sound disappointed because the very same reality applies here. Five is much more than none.] With around 30 of us, that's still a significant people who may be helped, especially if it can also keep it from spreading from anyone who's treated.

If I should come to understand the symptoms well enough, I'll be able to determine for certain if one person's been exposed. [Once again, obliquely mentioning the accessory for doing the doctor's job that the letter had without explicitly revealing or drawing attention to it.] Ideally, we won't have to use all or even any of the stockpile, but we should prepare for if we do.
